If there is a Santa, this is what I'll be getting for Christmas...

For the love! What I would give to be jet skiing right now!
Well

Sorry about the boring post. It was a goal of mine to blog that day...I didn't really feel like it, but I had to do it, so I just wrote that.

So a little over a month ago, the company I worked for went out of business. I have to tell ya, though, it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. It was kind of a good kick in the rear to start accomplishing some of the goals that I need to be working on. It's been fun being the one to clean, make dinner, make Emmy lunch and such. Me and a friend who also worked there are starting a company also in transportation logistics! We're both really excited as we have several customers who are on board, most of the same fleets will work with us, and some new carriers as well. Those that know me real well probably are surprised that it took so long for me to actually start a business. I'm such an entrepreneur, and it's great having the freedom and flexibility, as well as the extra drive to work for myself. It's nice to check that off that goal...it was supposed to be within 5 years, so nice that I got it checked off early. On top of that I'll be selling health insurance on the side. I'm trying to do a better job of not talking about crazy goals until at least some steps have been taken. I've slipped a few times with some people...poor Emmy hears so many of my crazy ideas. But yeah, I'm studying for the accident, health, and life insurance exam...so that's why I can talk about it. Once I take some steps on the next crazy goal, I'll talk about it.

Thoughts of a sickie

So I didn’t quite post every week like I wanted to. I did pretty good for awhile, but then college football happened. A lot else has happened as well…including mine and Emmy’s first year anniversary!! It’s been a great year, lots of adventures…tons to come still, of course.

Things I’ve learned this last year:
-Marriage does weird things to ya, I’ve kissed my finger or hand so many times thinking it was Emmy’s. A few weeks ago in the Temple I honestly thought I was her for a couple seconds. I always think that she’s me, which is why I don’t give her many details of my day cause I feel like she’s gone through it with me, and I assume she has all the same memories I have.
-I knew when I married Emmy that I’d also be marrying Porky, what I didn’t know is that I would also be marrying Tay-Tay, Harry, Memmy, and Bammy. We all have so much fun together, I love the mall.
-I’d say that when we were dating I rubbed off on her a lot more than her on me. I think it’s changed, though. Sure she still says, ‘for the love’ and calls me ‘kid,’ ‘son’, etc. And she does go with me to football games, but I used the word ‘sickie’ in the title. And I do her dance.
-Marriage is great…Emmy is great!

So the Squirt Gun War is started up again, I’m the neo-Grand Moff. It’s pretty fun, I’m ready if anyone tries to come get me. In fact, I dare them. I was home from work for two days and home from church for one. Even though I hate not contributing to society, I did finally beat the online Risk game for the USA Map with 7 computers at very clever. I also have 133,000 points for Brick Breaker which makes me in top 1,000 players, but still over 10,000,000 points away from first place.

I really thought Colby was liking it out here...

WOW!

You're just going to have to figure these pictures out on your own.

Better times...

So one of the main reasons we went to Texas is because of the BYU-Oklahoma game. It was amazing! I loved almost every second of it. It was incredible, so magical! The stadium was unbelievable! I have never seen anything like it and it really is worth all the hype. Jerry J went all out. This last week everybody has been asking me how it was. It's almost like answering the same when people asked me how my mission was. It was amazing! What else can I say?! There were tons of Oklahoma fans, it was pretty intimidating, but in the end the Cougars from Provo, UT pulled it off.

Lots of celebrating!

That big screen is incredible! I sure missed that as we were at the game yesterday. I've heard that the screen itself costs as much as a normal stadium.

I loved it when they showed the BYU logo

Once we went ahead I had to take a picture

The fam loved it! That was so much fun, we'll be talking about that game for years.

Our Texas Trip

So I can't fall asleep right now so thought I'd blog it up. Last year one of Emmy's Christmas presents was a promise that we would go to Texas within 5 years. I think it was like a week after where it was announced that BYU would be playing Oklahoma in the Cowboys new stadium. We decided to go for the game and enjoy Texas while we were down there. Emmy lived in Plano for some time so she really wanted to go back there. We also went to see Jared in Waco and then down to San Antonio. We came back to Dallas for some meetings I had with some clients, and we stayed with the Wyatts. My uncle Cory and his family, Jared, the Wyatts, and the Jacobsons were so nice in letting us stay in their homes.

Went by the Temple in Dallas

Plano
Emmy had lots of good memories here, always getting into trouble with her brother playing with bouncy balls all over the store.

JFK was shot from the 2nd window from the top to the right. What was interesting, though, is that there are conspiracy theorists everywhere and no people telling what really happened.

Hung out with Jared and his girlfriend, Danye.

Went to the capitol building in Austin.

A mission in San Antonio. Deep in the heart of Texas

The Riverwalk in San Antonio.

Em's co-worker, Shay, let us stay at one of their properties in San Antonio. It really really cool to just relax for a whole day.

On the way back we stopped at the Mesa Verde National Park and saw some cliff dwellings.

A cool storm we saw on the way back near Moab "Our dance" outside the Alamo

So that's it. It was a really fun trip, we ate a lot of good stuff. Em took me to some AMAZING restaurants like On the Border and Texas Land and Cattle. What's amazing, though, is that the more we travel, the more we love Utah.

Contemplation

Happiness!

Zions/Bryce Canyon

Me and Emmy had a fun weekend at Zions and Bryce Canyon.

This is Em right before the really steep part. The hike was pretty cool and challenging up to this point, but the last 1/2 mile is pretty steep...and a thousand feet in the air.

It's a long way down.

That was such a good nap.

I hope our kids never read this blog.

The photographer made a big deal about the heart on Emily

Bryce Canyon- Em's in deep contemplation about life.

AZ Trip

It really isn't my fault that I missed last week. Two weeks ago from last Thursday we left for Mesa for my grandparents' 50th anniversary. It was pretty fun. We got in late Thursday night after seeing some cool things along the way, like the Dixie National Forest and Glen Canyon Park. We OF COURSE got Jack in the Box in AZ, dropped Carl off, and went to Amy's. Friday was fun- there was an Amazing Race scavenger hunt that my team did terrible on, the food was really good. Let's see, then we chilled, played human foosball at the church and went to this little water park. That was a lot of fun, there were some cool slides. The girls and us saw old Robson Elementary, our old house, and introduced Jamie and Kayla to Jack in the Box. The next day was the reunion all day. We stayed up late playing Werewolves, went to Church the next day and then drove back. That weekend the National Parks were free, so on the way back we saw the Grand Canyon (it really is a grand canyon, not just an ok canyon) and Zions National Park. Gosh the earth is pretty!

Engaged a year ago

I'm trying to do better about blogging at least once a week. There's a lot to talk about- how our summer is going, rafting, vacations, etc. I'll get to that soon I hope, but a year ago last Tuesday June 30th was when we got engaged...holy cow! It's been an awesome year, we hope to re-enact the same engagement date we had. We didn't play basketball, but we did take the convertible (thanks Bishop Dad!) up the Alpine Loop and then went to our spot. We couldn't exactly remember how we the pictures were last year so we tried to do it somewhat similar to our memory. We only had a camera phone so we both couldn't be in some of the pictures.
It's been a great year and things just keep getting better.

We've gone on lots of evening/night drives up Provo Canyon lately with Em's fam...and the convertible. It's been really cool and it always gets me into deep contemplation. I can't quite put my finger on what I feel as we come down the canyon with smells of the mountain air, looking up at the majestic mountains with the wind in the face, and the sounds of the falls coming down the mountain. It's so hard to describe- it's definitely appreciation of the beauty around me, but it's more than that. I think about memories, how things are going presently, and just loving what the future will bring. It's nostalgic, but more...can't find the words to describe my feelings (I never can and fail miserably in trying to). Awe might describe it, maybe spritual renewal...whatever it is I love it and crave it. Sometimes it's the smell that does me in- just the smell of the trees takes me back to old family reunions or hikes I've been on. It's a great feeling, makes me love being alive and love all the blessings around me, including Heavenly Father sending me Emily, someone I'll be with forever and experience life with together.
Maybe I'll say a little about our vacation or just some of the highlights or thoughts.
-Had an amazing time at Trevor and Meghan's wedding. It was fun being with high school friends. The dance was really fun- me, Emmy, Skyler, and Rebekah got our groove on in the middle of the dance floor. I loved the old stake dances we went to cause I just let go and dance til I drop. I sweat so much at that dance, but it was really fun.
-Nauvoo was cool...really hot, but it's always cool to be there and feel like we're in Utah out in the Midwest. At each location we went to they always asked where we're from. We kept saying Provo...yep, that's right I'm starting to say I'm from Provo now. I'll always really be from CB, but once you buy a house I think you're home has shifted.
-Springfield, IL was really cool. Abraham Lincoln was just a good guy. America really needed him. It's interesting how he was a one-term Congressman, then a nobody for awhile, and then President. It was cool seeing the sites and just appreciating that man.
-St. Louis, MO- Steak and Shake was good, so was Jack in the Box. Six Flags was a lot of fun- the water park was especially cool. It was SOOOO stinkin hot- one of my favorite parts about the park was just standing under the outside showers they had- the water was freezing but gosh it felt good. We also went to the Cahokia Indian Mounds site- that was interesting.
-Kansas City, MO. More like Independence, Liberty Jail, and Adam Ondi Ahman. There was a huge storm that we drove through- it's always cool seeing signs that say entering Jackson County or something like that. So weird and fascinating to think all that has happened there and all that will happen. I've been to all these sites before, but it was fun taking Emily to them.
-JET SKIING for three days! For the love...I can't explain how much fun I have on it. Whenever I think about jet skiing in general I have to hum a hymn or do something to think different thoughts because I long after it so much and I just...(I gotta stop thinking about it)
-Being with family, late night talks, eating lotsa pizza and other good foods, being home, etc. It was a mini-reunion with a lot of family- it was just fun and relaxing.
Anyway, this blog ended up being a lot longer than I thought. I'll stop here and try to do better to put up an entry every week. Me and Emmy are working on something big that we'll hopefully roll out online by September, stay tuned
